Panama Canal & Suez Canal.

It stretches from the Port Said in Egypt, through the Mediterranean Sea to the Port of Suez at the Red Sea, connecting Europe and Asia. It brought a new era of European influence in Pacific Asia by reducing the journey from Asia to Europe by about 6,000 km by skipping a detour around the Cape of Good Hope.
Utilizing the Panama Canal to go from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean saves time today just as it did when the canal was opened in 1914. Without the Panama Canal, ships would have to sail all the way around South America.
